Heavy Transformer Handling in Strasbourg

Heavy Transformer Handling in Strasbourg

A High-Precision Operation by Bovis Alsace

Heavy transformer handling in Strasbourg requires advanced technical expertise, appropriately sized equipment, and perfect control of safety constraints. It was in this context that Bovis Alsace, a regional agency of the BOVIS Group, recently carried out an operation at the Legrand site in Strasbourg, involving the delivery, installation, and removal of electrical transformers, successfully completed within half a day.

A Strategic Operation at the Heart of Energy Challenges

The teams at Bovis Alsace handled a 3,400 kg transformer, intended for on-site installation, as well as the removal of an older 3,200 kg transformer, which was immediately taken over for transport and treatment at the client’s facility. This type of operation fully aligns with the missions of the Energy Center of Excellence of the BOVIS Group, dedicated to heavy, sensitive, and high-strategic-value electrical equipment.

Electrical transformers are critical components of industrial and commercial infrastructures. Their handling requires rigorous planning, precise coordination, and flawless execution.

Perfectly Sized Lifting and Rolling Equipment

For this heavy handling operation in Strasbourg, Bovis Alsace deployed technical resources commensurate with the challenges involved:

  • One 80-ton crane boom, ensuring safe and precise lifting capacity

  • One approach vehicle, facilitating on-site equipment access

  • One set of skates with mover, essential for the controlled movement of heavy loads

  • Two 5-ton jacks, allowing fine adjustments during positioning

  • Four specialized technicians, trained in heavy handling operations and electrical environments

Thanks to this equipment, the teams were able to carry out a rolling operation over approximately 100 meters between the unloading area and the final installation location, while ensuring the stability and integrity of the transformer.

A Delicate Passage Managed to Within 3 Centimeters

One of the critical aspects of this operation involved a particularly narrow passage between an existing electrical cabinet and a wall, with only 3 centimeters of clearance. This type of constraint perfectly illustrates the added value of Bovis Alsace in heavy transformer handling in confined environments.

Through the combined use of rolling skates, jacks, and the teams’ field expertise, the transformer was positioned with extreme precision, without any disruption to operations or risk to the surrounding installations.

A Fast, Safe, and Responsible Operation

The entire operation was completed within half a day, demonstrating Bovis Alsace’s ability to combine operational efficiency, strict adherence to deadlines, and maximum safety. The removal of the old transformer, immediately taken over for delivery to the client for treatment, also reflects a responsible approach fully compliant with environmental requirements.

The Energy Center of Excellence of the BOVIS Group

This operation in Strasbourg perfectly illustrates the expertise of the Energy Center of Excellence of the BOVIS Group, nationally recognized for:
