Heavy and Delicate Sculpture Handling in Nantes

Bovis Atlantique supporting Bovis Fine Art for a technical operation at the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Nantes

In May and June 2025, the teams from Bovis Atlantique, the technical agency of the Bovis Group based in Nantes (Loire-Atlantique), provided logistical support to Bovis Fine Art during a sensitive operation involving the handling and transport of artworks within the Musée d’Arts de Nantes.

A High-Precision Mission in Service of Heritage

The operation was carried out in two distinct phases:

Phase 1: Dismantling and repositioning of a monumental sculpture

The mission involved moving a 3-ton Carrara marble sculpture, representing Cleopatra and signed by Ducommun du Locle, to install it on a new pedestal in the museum’s main hall.

The Bovis Atlantique teams deployed their expertise in heavy and delicate handling, using a 5-ton gantry crane, weight-distribution plates, and custom supports to ensure the sculpture's stability throughout each stage of the move.

Phase 2: Packaging and secure transfer of 17 artworks to the museum’s storage facilities

This stage included reinforced soft-packing of 11 paintings—some of which were very large (up to 2.40 x 3.50 m)—and the slatted crating of 6 sculptures. Once again, the complementary technical skills of Bovis Atlantique ensured precise cushioning, controlled loading, and safe delivery to the museum reserves.
