Nouvelle-Aquitaine
From 19 March to 27 May, the Musée d'Aquitaine in Bordeaux is hosting the exhibition "The Origins of the Olympic Games – Athletic Competitions and Culture in Greek Antiquity". This exhibition is part of the GymnAsia cultural season, proposed by the Ausonius Research Center of the University of Bordeaux Montaigne, the University of Bordeaux, the Museum of Castings in Munich, and the Museum of Aquitaine, with the support of CASDEN. Bovis Fine Art Bordeaux, recognized for its expertise in the transport and installation of works of art, played a key role in the preparation of this exhibition.
The University of Bordeaux Montaigne asked Bovis Fine Art Bordeaux to manage the logistics of the works intended for the exhibition. Among the highlights are four statues of athletes from antiquity, including the Discobolus, the Wrestlers of Florence, the Diadumenos of Farnese, and the Pugilist of the Baths, the latter on loan from the Museum of Casts in Munich.
On 16 January, the Bovis team went to the storage premises of the University of Bordeaux Montaigne to make two works available to restorers: the Discobolus and the Diadumene of Farnese.
After their restoration, these two works were recovered on January 29 and transported to Bovis' facilities in Saint-Jean-d'Illac for secure storage.
On March 15, Bovis received the plaster cast of the Pugilist of the Thermal Baths, from the Museum of Casts in Munich, adding an international touch to the exhibition.
On 18 March, the Bovis Fine Art Bordeaux team delivered and installed the four works at the Musée d'Aquitaine, ensuring optimal positioning for the statues.
The Wrestlers of Florence, the emblematic piece of the exhibition, benefited from a meticulous restoration at the premises of Bovis Fine Art Bordeaux in Saint-Jean-d'Illac in October. This restoration has restored the statue to its former glory, preparing for its role as the poster child for the exhibition.
In addition to the exhibition, GymnAsia offers an Olympic season with many events: conference cycles, sports demonstrations, participatory Olympiads and heritage visits. These events aim to enrich the visitor experience by providing them with a detailed insight into ancient athletic culture and the impact of the Olympic Games on Greek society.
Bovis Fine Art Bordeaux's involvement in the installation of the artworks for the exhibition "The Origins of the Olympic Games" at the Musée d'Aquitaine underlines their ability to manage complex projects with unparalleled expertise. By combining technical know-how with a deep respect for artistic heritage, Bovis has humbly contributed to an exhibition that will leave a lasting impression on visitors and enrich the understanding of the ancient Olympic legacy.
