In the field of high-precision medical equipment, every delivery and installation is a major logistical challenge. This was particularly true for the 3,000 kg microscope delivered and installed in Alsace by Bovis Alsace, a recognized expert in specialized transport and medical equipment handling in the region. Let’s take a look back at this complex and exemplary operation, carried out on behalf of a cutting-edge medical device manufacturer.
This rare and sophisticated microscope is the fourth of its kind to be installed in Europe. Its size, weight—3,000 kg spread over 16 crates, including a main unit weighing 1,600 kg—and its final underground location required meticulous logistical preparation and perfectly coordinated execution.
To successfully complete this highly technical task, the medical equipment manufacturer turned to Bovis Alsace, a company specialized in heavy handling and fine logistics for sensitive medical devices.
The operation took place over two full days and involved an experienced team of four Bovis staff members and a fleet of dedicated equipment:
3 carrier trucks to transport the 16 crates to the site,
1 crane arm for unloading the main unit,
1 2.5-ton forklift for indoor movement,
and a specially installed access ramp to reach the building's basement.
Every step was carefully planned—from collecting the equipment from the manufacturer to its installation in a technical room with limited accessibility.
The first day was dedicated to delivering and unpacking the 16 crates. Thanks to their in-depth knowledge of specialized transport, the Bovis technicians ensured careful unloading using wedges, specific protections, and straps adapted to the microscope's unusual dimensions.
On the second day, the teams carried out the delicate handling to the basement via a reinforced ramp before assisting in the precise positioning of the various components in the technical room. The installation was done in close collaboration with the client’s technical staff to meet the microscope’s strict calibration requirements.
This operation perfectly illustrates the expertise required for handling and delivering medical equipment in Alsace—a field in which Bovis Alsace stands as a leading player. Their command of accessibility constraints, weight challenges, equipment fragility, and their rigorous planning and safety protocols ensured a flawless operation.
Beyond the technical aspects, the experience gained by Bovis teams in specialized transport reassures manufacturers and healthcare institutions faced with large-scale projects, providing them with a flawless level of service.
The delivery of this 3-ton microscope in Alsace is far from a simple transport operation: it is a concrete example of high-precision medical logistics requiring rare expertise.
Whether installing scanners, MRIs, microscopes, or any other sensitive and bulky medical equipment, specialized handling is a key step in the process. It ensures the future performance of the equipment and directly contributes to the quality of care delivered.
