Turnkey Hospital Relocation: Transfer of the CCI at Rennes University Hospital (France)

As a specialist in large-scale hospital relocations, Groupe Bovis recently carried out one of the most complex logistical operations in the healthcare sector in recent years: the turnkey transfer of the new Surgical and Interventional Center (CCI) of the Rennes University Hospital (CHU).

This strategic mission, encompassing engineering, project coordination (OPC), and new equipment management, was led by Bovis Transferts’ dedicated hospital unit and executed in the field by the agencies Bovis Atlantique (44), DML (14) and Bovis Pays de Loire (49).

The project was prepared over a two-year period: initial inventories began in August 2023, followed by the drafting of detailed transfer schedules (ODD) at the end of 2023, ensuring optimal planning and seamless coordination across all phases of the relocation.

Through this project, Groupe Bovis reaffirms its ability to support healthcare institutions in their most ambitious transitions—while ensuring the continuity of care and the safety of medical equipment.

The Rennes CCI: A Strategic Facility and a Major Logistical Challenge

Commissioned in spring 2025, the Centre Chirurgical Interventionnel (CCI) of the Rennes CHU stands out as a major healthcare infrastructure, featuring:

  • 50,000 m² of surface area
  • 55 operating rooms, including 14 hybrid interventional rooms
  • 108 critical care beds
  • 240 conventional hospital beds

The opening of this new facility required the consolidation of surgical activities previously spread across multiple buildings and operating theaters.

The transfer notably included:

  • The emergency operating suite and its associated critical care units (ICU, step-down, trauma center)
  • All cardiothoracic surgery and cardiology activities, including catheterization labs and cardiac surgery intensive care

A major challenge of the project was to ensure uninterrupted care throughout the relocation, especially for emergency and life-critical services.

A Comprehensive Mission Including New Equipment Management

Beyond the physical relocation of departments and equipment, Groupe Bovis also handled the complete logistical coordination of new furniture and medical equipment destined for the new building.

This included:

  • Managing nearly 400 individual supplier orders
  • Coordinating deliveries from 65 different manufacturers
  • Dozens of scheduled, received, verified, and installed deliveries on-site

Each item was subject to quality and quantity control, strict traceability, and close coordination with the CHU’s biomedical engineering and supplier teams. This meticulous process enabled the immediate operational deployment of the newly installed equipment.

Recognized Expertise Serving Hospital Performance

With this new success, Groupe Bovis confirms its position as a national leader in hospital relocations.

Each year, Bovis teams carry out:

  • The transfer of over 250,000 m³ of hospital furniture
  • More than 100 operating rooms
  • 20 complete laboratory relocations
  • Over 7 km of medical records and archives

The strength of the Group lies in its dedicated hospital unit, capable of managing complex projects while integrating all logistical, technical, and human dimensions. Thanks to proven planning tools, rigorous organization, and continuous collaboration with healthcare institutions, Bovis ensures the safety, continuity of care, and performance of hospital environments.
